We love to be generous. Recently we filled these shoeboxes for the Operation Christmas Child appeal:
Everything we have belongs to God and we are responsible for administering it wisely. Giving to God's work is one of the ways this is worked out. Our motivation for giving money is important to God. Thankfulness, faith in God as our provider, giving as an act of worship and obedience to God, generosity and love are all motives we believe are in line with the Bible's teaching (2 Corinthians 8:7 and 9:6-15).
The Bible also teaches that Christians should support God's work willingly, cheerfully, generously, regularly and in proportion to their income and resources (1 Corinthians 16:1-2 and 2 Corinthians 8:3,12). Many Christians use tithing (giving a tenth of their income) as a guideline. This is a principle referred to in the Bible (e.g. Malachi 3:10-12). Some Christians may be able to regularly give more than a tithe and all Christians should consider giving more from time to time to meet particular needs or in thankfulness for particular blessings.
